W North Central Inv.: #18 Cathedral topples #24 host Panthers for title

INDIANAPOLIS – No. 18 Indianapolis Cathedral finished 5-0, including a 46-20 championship victory over 24th-ranked host North Central (Indianapolis), to capture the eight-team North Central Invitational Jan. 9.

The Fighting Irish opened the day by plowing through a pair of pool opponents in Union County (60-11) and Logansport (59-12), setting the stage for a 56-16 romp over Greenfield-Central. A 38-25 win over Hamilton Southeastern sealed a berth in the finals, where Cathedral handled a Panther team beset by injury.

North Central had reached the finals with pool wins over Western Boone (68-9) and Shelbyville (51-21) before the day’s best match, a 35-31 barnburner victory over Hamilton Southeastern. The Panthers then defeated Greenfield-Central, 44-22, to reach the finals.

Hamilton Southeastern downed Greenfield-Central, 38-18, in the third place match. Logansport took fifth place with a 38-27 win over Shelbyville, while Union County downed Western Boone, 42-33, for seventh.
